2011 May 25 - Headline News Empty House members side with Netanyahu

Post by Admin Sun 29 May 2011, 10:23 am

House members side with Netanyahu
05/24/11

House lawmakers from both parties are siding with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over President Obama in their differing approaches to the Israel-Palestine border dispute.

Obama last week called for Israel's 1967 borders to mark the "foundation" for renewing stalled peace talks between the two sides - a concession to Palestine that Netanyahu has bluntly rejected, including in remarks to a joint meeting of Congress Tuesday.

"The vast majority of the 650,000 Israelis who live beyond the 1967 lines reside in neighborhoods and suburbs of Jerusalem and greater Tel Aviv," Netanyahu told lawmakers in his 45-minute address. "And under any realistic peace agreement these areas, as well as other places of critical strategic and national importance, will be incorporated into the final borders of Israel."

Rep. Robert Andrews (D-N.J.) said Tuesday that Obama is "tilting toward Hamas" - a reference to the Palestinian group the United States and Israel consider a terrorist organization. He emphasized that Congress would never base its approach to Israeli aid on such a position.

"A majority of the Congress disagrees with him,” Andrews said of Obama.

Rep. Austin Scott (R-Ga.), for one, said the president "absolutely … made a mistake" with his 1967-borders proposal, and suggested it would harm - rather than bolster - the chances of renewed peace talks.

"With all of the political turmoil and unrest in the Middle East, I don’t understand why the president injected himself into that issue right now," he said.

Both Rep. Steny Hoyer (Md.), the House Democratic whip, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) have also rejected Obama's proposal in recent days, telling the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) that preconditions have no place in the negotiations.

"No one should set premature parameters about borders, about building or about anything else," Reid said Monday night to roaring applause.

2011 May 25 - Headline News Empty Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid: “There’s no need to have a Democratic budget, in my opinion”

Post by Admin Sun 29 May 2011, 10:20 am

Despite a stern letter from every Senate Republican, Senate Democrats “leaders” have made a political decision-DO NOTHING and attack Paul Ryan’s budget. But “doing nothing” is hardly new to this Senate. According to Byron York at the Washington Times, (and Senator Jeff Sessions), “The last time the Senate passed a budget was April 29, 2009, which was, if you are counting - and Jeff Sessions is - 755 days ago.” The so-called deliberative body of Congress, (controlled by the Democrats), have cowardly made another political choice by again ignoring the will of the people-to put the Federal Government’s fiscal house in order-and to stop the deficit spending. Instead, the majority leader and Senate Budget Committee Chairman, Kent Conrad have no intention of performing their statutory responsibility:

“There’s no need to have a Democratic budget, in my opinion,” Reid told the Los Angeles Times last week. “It would be foolish for us to do a budget at this stage.” Instead, Reid wants to wait to see if the deficit-reduction meetings led by Vice President Biden bear any fruit. Before that, Reid wanted to wait for the Gang of Six - now nearly defunct - to come up with something.

Sessions was appalled when he read Reid’s words. “It was a fundamental statement that they’re playing politics,” Sessions said. “They don’t think it’s politically smart to produce a budget. They’d rather produce nothing and attack Paul Ryan and the Republicans and think they’re going to gain politically by avoiding their fundamental statutory responsibility. It’s pretty breathtaking to me.”
Reid isn’t alone. The chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, Kent Conrad, is also happy to not produce a budget. Last week, he told reporters that he planned to “defer” work on a 2012 budget indefinitely.

2011 May 25 - Headline News Empty AARP's ObamaCare Endgame Revealed

Post by Admin Sun 29 May 2011, 10:19 am

We now have a clear picture of the treachery in which AARP has engaged since President Obama took office. The Daily Caller reports that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has granted Medigap policy sellers, including the American Association of Retired Persons, exemption from ObamaCare-mandated federal supervision of insurance premium hikes. "Medigap" is an industry term for a type of coverage that helps pay medical costs not covered by Medicare.

Non-Medigap insurers, not exempted from ObamaCare's rate reviews, must justify rate increases. In effect, the HHS exemption gives AARP the ability to generate profits not achievable by non-exempted competitors.

It's important to remember that AARP helped push ObamaCare through Congress by contributing to a $121 million advertising campaign and paying for millions of dollars worth of Washington lobbying. AARP has betrayed the seniors whose interests the organization allegedly protects and positioned itself to make billions after playing along with the Obama administration's corporatist favoritism.

Corporatism, or "crony capitalism," takes many forms. For instance, when seniors began to catch on to the systemic health care damage that ObamaCare would cause, President Obama and congressional Dems feared disappearing senior political support. As I discussed last August, it is at such junctures that "the Halliburtons, BPs, attorney groups, SEIUs, and AARPs, which donate in return for political favors that funnel dollars into corporate bank accounts," enter the picture. In crony capitalism, corporate entities fund misinformation campaigns that paint harmful government action as beneficial and shifty politicians as straight-up. In the case of ObamaCare, AARP leadership supported legislation which AARP members judged harmful and therefore rejected.

AARP used one especially creative tactic. The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) dissected an AARP analysis of prescription drug prices. Using cherry-picked data, AARP had surveyed 217 drugs, 211 of which increased in price over a year. By also excluding generic drugs from the analysis, AARP led members to believe that drug prices had increased 8.3 percent in 2009. Labeling the ploy as a dishonest scare tactic would be kind.

In fact, AARP painted for members a false portrait of an obscenely profitable pharmaceutical industry at a time when drug company profit margins were running a hardly obscene 16.4 percent, with generic drug makers recording a meager 6.5 percent. Still more indicative of AARP's manipulation of reality, the truth about price trends is that seniors pay less each successive year for the most-used drugs.

Specifically, an AEI study found that from 2006 to 2009, average prescription drug prices declined 21.3 percent. AARP had claimed a 27.3 percent increase. AARP's forty-nine percentage-point distortion had advanced a grotesque falsehood. Meanwhile, contrary to all experience with government price controls, ObamaCare proponents were claiming the ability to hold drug prices down as well as preserve quality and quantity of care through government intervention. AARP's manipulation of drug price data seems to have been aimed at encouraging seniors to believe that ObamaCare could actually buck the laws of the universe. The organization was selling the tall tale that ObamaCare would save the day while setting members up for higher costs and degraded care.

AARP leadership probably also hoped that the drug price deception would help convince seniors to calmly accept higher health care costs. Indeed, in November 2010, AARP was already warning its employees about insurance premium hikes, blaming ObamaCare. So with ObamaCare boosting AARP employee premiums, could AARP member premiums hikes be far behind? Now, seven months later, seniors discover that HHS will permit AARP, unlike AARP's insurance industry competitors, to adjust Medigap premiums without federal oversight.

The HHS exemption dials in AARP's endgame. Health care revenue expert David Catron explained the scheme. Catron wondered why AARP, dependent on insurance revenue, had decided to back ObamaCare legislation that could decimate the health insurance industry. Catron cited Democrats' proposal to "pay" for ObamaCare with funds robbed from Medicare Advantage, a non-Medigap supplier of supplemental Medicare insurance. AARP had in fact aggressively supported the Democrats' approach, pushing for ObamaCare legislation to be written in such a way as to gut Medicare Advantage.

To be sure, because Medicare Advantage is AARP's biggest insurance competitor, when MA gets weakened, AARP will emerge a winner. Fully executed, AARP's strategy will knock MA sellers out of the supplemental Medicare market and relegate seniors to the higher out-of-pocket expenses of traditional Medicare. Curiously, AARP's insurance revenue flows largely from Medigap plans designed to cover those out-of-pocket expenses.

So AARP's game is now crystal clear. The organization pushed legislation which will hurt seniors financially and in quality of medical care. AARP leadership betrayed current members to gain future members. The leadership learned well: corporatism creates prosperity for the few who play the game.

Prosperity for the many is another matter. General wealth increases when people with legal business ideas get equal opportunities to introduce those ideas to the marketplace. Entrepreneurs must be free to pour resources into products and services that people want. In such a system, companies win by providing the best products and services in the fastest, cheapest ways. Businesses and consumers win.

But in helping Democrats pass economically destructive legislation, AARP has helped number the days for revenue streams and jobs in insurance industry competitors that fail to negotiate the corporatist maze.

AARP has joined more than 1300 entities granted the freedom to compensate for the higher costs assured by Obamacare's overregulation of the health care and insurance markets. AARP's actions will end up contributing to seniors' health care quality falling and costs rising-by government fiat.

Where is the senior outrage?

2011 May 25 - Headline News Empty The Truth Behind Chrysler’s FAKE Auto Bailout Pay Back

The truth behind Chrysler’s fake auto bailout pay back

The fake Chrysler loan payoff

You probably remember when GM made the big announcement that it had paid off its loans from the bailout? You most likely also remember that subsequent investigation found that GM was simply using borrowed money from a government extended line of credit to “pay back” part of what was loaned under the bailout? In other words it took taxpayer money extended under the LOC and gave it to the government as a payment of “debt”. Overall, though, it’s debt remained the same.

This week Chrysler went through the same sort of shenanigans as Conn Carroll reports:

Chrysler won't repay bailout money

An administration official confirms that a $4 billion bridge loan and $3.2 billion in bankruptcy financing won't be paid back by Chrysler following bankruptcy.

By Chris Isidore, CNNMoney[dot]com senior writer
Last Updated: May 6, 2009: 3:44 AM ETNEW YORK (CNNMoney[dot]com) --

Chrysler LLC will not repay U.S. taxpayers more than $7 billion in bailout money it received earlier this year and as part of its bankruptcy filing.

This revelation was buried within Chrysler's bankruptcy filings last week and confirmed by the Obama administration Tuesday. The filings included a list of business assumptions from one of the company's key financial advisors in the bankruptcy case.

Some of the main assumptions listed by Robert Manzo of Capstone Advisory Group were that the Treasury would forgive a $4 billion bridge loan given to Chrysler in the closing days of the Bush administration, a $300 million fee on that loan, and the $3.2 billion in financing approved last week by the Obama administration to fund Chrysler's operations during bankruptcy.

An Obama administration official confirmed Tuesday that Chrysler won't be repaying the loans, though a portion of the bridge loan may be recovered by Treasury from the assets of Chrysler Financial, the former credit arm of the automaker which is essentially going out of business as part of the reorganization.

"The reality now is that the face value [of the $4 billion bridge loan] will be written off in the bankruptcy process," said the official, who added that the 8% equity stake that Treasury will be receiving as part of the company's reorganization is meant to compensate taxpayers for the lost money.

"While we do not expect a recovery of these funds, we are comfortable that in the totality of the arrangement, the Treasury and the American taxpayer are being fairly compensated," said the official.

2011 May 25 - Headline News Empty Shock and Dismay on the Left [FOX Most Trusted]

Post by Admin Sun 29 May 2011, 10:14 am

Suffolk University in Boston has come up with a new poll that indicates that Fox News Channel is by far the most trusted news source to no one's surprise- - well, that is no one but the Soros puppet progressives at outfits like Media Matters.

The poll shows that FNC is trusted by 28% of the public, followed by CNN at 18%, NBC at 10%, MSNBC at 7%, and the other two network news at 6% each.

This is no surprise to those of us who live their lives with their eyes and minds open. During the 2008 election season, at least two studies -- one by Pew Research Center and the other by CMPA -- showed clearly that Fox was the most balanced and unbiased source of election coverage.

I would agree with critics who might say that Fox leans to the conservative side but that is beyond the issue at hand. The ideological bend of the network is irrelevant as long as they report the news
fairly. That, unfortunately, is not the case as far as other networks are concerned.

2011 May 25 - Headline News Empty Unhinged: MSNBC’s Ed Schultz calls Laura Ingraham a ‘right-wing slut’

Post by Admin Sun 29 May 2011, 10:07 am

So much for civility, at least at MSNBC - the home of the “Lean Forward” mantra.

On his Tuesday radio program, liberal talker and MSNBC host Ed Schultz took a shot at conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham for her criticism of President Barack Obama’s trip to Ireland, where he enjoyed a Guinness, while the Midwestern United States was being hit by severe weather. (h/t Brian Maloney, the Radio Equalizer)

“And what do the Republicans thinking about?” Schultz said. “They’re not thinking about their next-door neighbor. They’re just thinking about how much this is going to cost. President Obama is going to be visiting Joplin, Mo., on Sunday but you know what they’re talking about, like this right-wing slut, what’s her name?, Laura Ingraham? Yeah, she’s a talk slut. You see, she was, back in the day, praising President Reagan when he was drinking a beer overseas. But now that Obama’s doing it, they’re working him over.”

2011 May 25 - Headline News Empty SEIU protest shows public sector can’t read maps

Post by Admin Sun 29 May 2011, 10:07 am

What if you held a protest to stop the destruction of the environment, and instead demonstrated that you couldn’t tell the difference? The nation’s fastest-growing public-employee union put a new meaning to the phrase close enough for government work. The SEIU’s protest of shale drilling and tax policy literally didn’t come within miles of actual shale drilling:

When union workers and environmental activists picked a Hastings-area site to protest inaction on a Marcellus Shale severance tax, they made one mistake. Marcellus activity isn’t occurring within miles of it. Service Employees International Union officials issued an apology Monday, saying they mistakenly set up their protest Thursday - and a makeshift tollbooth asking the industry to pay its fair share - next to a surface well property that has been around for years and isn’t set up for shale drilling.

“There is no Marcellus Shale drilling on that property, and we’ve contacted the property owners and apologized. It was a mistake, and there was no malice intended even when we thought it was a Marcellus well,” said Neil Bhaerman, a SEIU Healthcare spokesman. “It was an honest mistake that we are going to take extra care to ensure never happens again.”What? All of the expertise that we’ve come to expect from agencies like the Departments of Education, Transportation, and Health and Human Services, and they couldn’t figure out how to read a map? How utterly … unsurprising.

2011 May 25 - Headline News Empty Drug Industry: President Reneges on Health-Reform Deal

Post by Admin Sun 29 May 2011, 10:06 am

Another one UNDER THE BUS !!

WHEN will people realize Obama CAN NOT be trusted ??

Obama breaks Obamacare promise to drug companies

Drug Industry: President Reneges on Health-Reform Deal

The White House’s new deficit plan has the drug industry crying foul, and that means Big Pharma may now join Big Insurers to push back on health reform.

Drug industry sources tell FOX Business the Administration is backtracking on what is called the “PhRMA deal” in health reform, a deal that was struck behind closed doors in late 2009 and early 2010 in order to get the industry to support and endorse health-care reform.

In the “PhRMA” deal, drug companies would fork over $80 billion in fees as well as give drug discounts to seniors in Medicare over 10 years, among other things.

In exchange, the White House agreed, among other items, to not force the drug industry to accept rebates on drugs sold through Medicare Part D, a program launched under President George W. Bush to subsidize prescription drugs for seniors.

But President Barack Obama's new deficit push calls for those Medicare rebates, via the Simpson-Bowles plan.

2011 May 25 - Headline News Empty 2011 May 25 - Headline News

Post by Admin Sun 29 May 2011, 10:04 am

This DAY in History:

May 25, 1787:
Constitutional Convention convenes in Philadelphia

With George Washington presiding, the Constitutional Convention formally convenes on this day in 1787. The convention faced a daunting task: the peaceful overthrow of the new American government as it had been defined by the Article of Confederation.

The process began with the proposal of James Madison's Virginia Plan. Madison had dedicated the winter of 1787 to the study of confederacies throughout history and arrived in Philadelphia with a wealth of knowledge and an idea for a new American government. Virginia's governor, Edmund Randolph, presented Madison's plan to the convention. It featured a bicameral legislature, with representation in both houses apportioned to states based upon population; this was seen immediately as giving more power to large states, like Virginia. The two houses would in turn elect the executive and the judiciary and would possess veto power over the state legislatures. Madison's conception strongly resembled Britain's parliament. It omitted any discussion of taxation or regulation of trade, however; these items had been set aside in favor of outlining a new form of government altogether.

William Patterson soon countered with a plan more attractive to the new nation's smaller states. It too bore the imprint of America's British experience. Under the New Jersey Plan, as it became known, each state would have a single vote in Congress as it had been under the Articles of Confederation, to even out power between large and small states. But, the plan also gave Congress new powers: the collection of import duties and a stamp tax, the regulation of trade and the enforcement of requisitions upon the states with military force.

Alexander Hamilton then put forward to the delegates a third plan, a perfect copy of the British Constitution including an upper house and legislature that would serve on good behavior.

Confronted by three counter-revolutionary options, the representatives of Connecticut finally came up with a workable compromise: a government with an upper house made up of equal numbers of delegates from each state and a lower house with proportional representation based upon population. This idea formed the basis of the new U.S. Constitution, which became the law of the land in 1789.
