2011 Mar 17 - Headline News Empty Democratic Socialists of America reach their goal ahead of time

Post by Admin Fri 18 Mar 2011, 5:55 pm

DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) is the largest socialist organization outside of the CPUSA (Communist Party U.S.A.) honest enough not to masquerade as something other than what they are.

In 1997 DSA goals to attain by 2017 included:
A U.S. President from the Progressive Caucus, a 50 member socialist caucus in Congress, successful programs of the likes of universal health care, progressive taxation, social provision and campaign finance reform.
Little could they have known that almost a decade before their deadline, they would have practically achieved every one of their stated goals.

Their not-so-secret plan to achieve these goals was to take over the Democrat party, which they
accomplished as apparent from the current crop of Democrats and the demise of the conservative, true "blue dogs" like former Democrat Senator Zell Miller (GA), whose book 'A National Party No More' is a must read for every American who cares to inform themselves about the transformation of the Democrat party. The CPUSA also joined the DSA in this goal as far back as the 1970s and admits that their members run for political office under the banner of the Democrat party.

In fact, the CPC (Congressional Progressive Caucus), with its 83 declared members, openly espouse the principles of
socialism and publicly had signed onto the agenda of the Democratic Socialists of America. It was organized by the DSA
per DSA's own admission. Like Obama with his seemingly multitudinous radical associations, the current estimated number of Democrats who were active in DSA (or had very close associations with likes of DSA or CPUSA), is well above their 1997 goal of 50 congressional members.

2011 Mar 17 - Headline News Empty Palin Doctrine Emerges as Arab League Echoes Her Demarche on Libya

Post by Admin Fri 18 Mar 2011, 4:54 pm

March 16, 2011

The call by the Arab League for Western military intervention in an Arab state — in this case asking that a UN “no-fly zone” be imposed over Libya – is not only without precedent but it puts in formal terms what Governor Palin stated three weeks ago should have been America’s response to the political and humanitarian crisis now unfolding there.

The former GOP vice presidential candidate was being interviewed on February 23rd on national television by Sean Hannity on a range of issues. On the Libya crisis, she proposed a no-fly-zone to protect the armed and un-armed opposition to the Qaddafi regime. Mrs. Palin’s formulation had been blogged about for nearly a week when it was echoed by the man who, before the Iraq war, had led the Iraq democratic movement in exile, Ahmed Chalabi.

A long-time foe of Saddam Hussein who has emerged as a leading figure in Iraq’s democratically elected legislature. Mr Chalabi recounted in the Wall Street Journal how President George H. W. Bush’s 1991 call for a popular uprising against Saddam had been heeded by the Iraqi people, only to have Saddam then murder some 30,000 of them from helicopter gunships while the Western world stood by.

Not again, Mr. Chalabi pleaded in his essay, and explicitly demanded a Libyan no-fly-zone. But it now it seems Qaddafi will be allowed to repeat a Saddam-style repression, even as President Obama, and the rest of what he likes to call the international community, is “watching carefully.”

Mrs. Palin also continues to link America’s energy policy — a realm in which she has experience — and U.S. foreign and anti-terrorism policies. She recognizes that the ongoing transfer of billions of U.S. petro-dollars to unstable or even hostile Mideast regimes has, since the formation in 1973 of the Organization of Petoleum Exporting Countries, been an drain on U.S. financial resources.

In a critique of Mr. Obama’s energy policies published yesterday at about the same time the Arab League was adopting her prescription for a Libya no-fly-zone, Mrs. Palin laid out how the president’s “war on domestic oil and gas exploration and production has caused us pain at the pump, endangered our already sluggish economic recovery, and threatened our national security.” Nor is Gov. Palin’s insight into complex international issues limited to areas of her immediate expertise.

The Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin — certainly no knee-jerk advocate for Sarah Palin — wrote just a few weeks ago that Palin turns out to have been correct in the prediction she made to Barbara Walters, in a much-noted November 2009 interview. Palin stated she was opposed to Obama’s opposition to Israel’s settlement policies because “[m]ore and more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel in the days and weeks and months ahead.” Now, as Rubin noted, Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics confirms that the pace of immigration to Israel rose 14% to 16,633 from the level in 2009, most coming from Russia or America.

Mrs. Palin will be in New Delhi later this week delivering the keynote address to the annual India Today Conclave. She has been asked to speak on “What America Means to Me.” She will speak as a crisis is simmering between America and Pakistan, India’s nuclear-armed neighbor to the northwest and will be the first high profile trip by a potential Republican contender to South Asia.

More broadly, Mrs. Palin’s address in India will be another step in the growing outline of what might be called The Palin Doctrine. It contrasts sharply with the foreign policy being conducted, if that is the word, by President Obama, who is perplexing not only the Arab world, to which he reached out in his Cairo speech at the start of his presidency, but even his own supporters in the liberal camp, and many in between, who are upset by what might be called his propensity for inaction. It’s an inaction that suggests the Arab League won’t be the only institution that might find itself surprised by the logic of the alert Alaskan.

2011 Mar 17 - Headline News Empty Enlightening Quote: on collective bargaining,

Post by Admin Fri 18 Mar 2011, 2:04 pm

Franklin D. Roosevelt said...

"All Government employees should realize that the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service.

It has its distinct and insurmountable limitations when applied to public personnel management. The very nature and purposes of Government make it impossible for administrative officials to represent fully or to bind the employer in mutual discussions with Government employee organizations.

The employer is the whole people, who speak by means of laws enacted by their representatives in Congress."

2011 Mar 17 - Headline News Empty Gallup Finds U.S. Unemployment at 10.2% in Mid-March

Post by Admin Fri 18 Mar 2011, 12:13 pm

PRINCETON, NJ -- Unemployment, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, was at 10.2% in mid-March -- essentially the same as the 10.3% at the end of February but higher than the 10.0% of mid-February and the 9.8% at the end of January. The U.S. unemployment rate is about the same today as the 10.3% rate Gallup found in mid-March a year ago.

Underemployment, a measure that combines the percentage of part-time workers wanting full-time work with the percentage who are unemployed, was 19.9% in mid-March. Not surprisingly given the lack of change in its components, this is identical to the end-of-February reading, and is virtually the same as the 20.0% of mid-March a year ago.

GALLUP: Americans' Message to States: Cut, Don't Tax and Borrow

PRINCETON,
NJ -- Of seven possible ways to balance their own state's budget, Americans are most likely to favor cutting back on state programs (65%) and reducing the number of state workers (62%). Floating more bonds (30%) and raising state income or sales taxes (33%) garner the least support, followed by raising business taxes (39%).

2011 Mar 17 - Headline News Empty Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders Wants Comrade Obama to Face a “Progressive Democrat” Primary Challenger…

Post by Admin Fri 18 Mar 2011, 11:54 am

(The Hill) — One of the Senate’s liberal leaders said Wednesday that it would be beneficial for President Obama to face a primary challenger from the left in 2012.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who has criticized the president for — among other things — brokering a tax deal with Republicans, said that it is worthwhile to have a wide array of voices in the campaign.

“If a progressive Democrat were to run, I think it would enliven the debate,” he said during an interview on WNYC Radio. “They are free to do that.”

Sanders’s comments could revive talk of a primary challenge to Obama; many observers speculated that could happen after Democrats took a beating in the midterm elections, making the president look vulnerable for reelection in 2012.

2011 Mar 17 - Headline News Empty NJ shuts down Barack H. Obama Elementary School

Post by Admin Fri 18 Mar 2011, 11:46 am

Mmm, mmm, mmm: NJ shuts down Barack Obama Elementary School

How fitting that a school named after our profligate, post-achievement president is shutting down thanks to fiscal mismanagement and non-achievement.
---

The state fiscal monitor who oversees financial operations in the school district Thursday morning ordered
the closing of the Barack H. Obama Elementary School as of July 1.

Students next year will go to the district’s two other more modern elementary schools — Thurgood Marshall on the east side and Bradley on the west side.

Bruce Rodman, the monitor, made the decision after the school board in recent weeks failed to support a plan by Schools Superintendent Denise Lowe to reconfigure elementary grades to create early childhood learning centers in the district, a plan which would have kept the Obama school open.

Officially renamed early in 2010 after the president, the building was known as the Bangs Avenue School since it was built a century ago. The state School Development Authority had planned to build a new school to replace the historic building, but has pulled back and Lowe said recently the state would not build a new school.

2011 Mar 17 - Headline News Empty Sen. Paul Unveils 5-Year Budget Plan: Eliminates Four Federal Agencies

Post by Admin Fri 18 Mar 2011, 11:40 am

ABC News' Mary Bruce reports:

Senator Rand Paul, R-Ky., unveiled today his five-year path to a balanced budget, leaving several federal agencies behind. Among the items on the cutting room floor are the Departments of Education, Energy, Commerce and Housing and Urban Development.

“There’s a lot of things in here that everybody could agree to, Republicans and Democrats, but nobody’s leading on the president’s side and on our side we felt we needed to put this forward to get the debate started, at the very least,” the freshman Senator explained at a Capitol Hill press conference this afternoon.

The proposal also calls for the repeal of “Obamacare,” but leaves entitlements untouched.

“There’s an argument for every federal program up here… Nobody’s coming up here asking me for money that’s not for a good reason. But the alternative is that we get into a point of financial disaster where nobody gets any money,” he said.

According to Paul, a Tea Party conservative, the proposal will bring spending to the “historic average since World War II” in just one year. He further claims the budget achieves a $19 billion surplus by FY2016 and will bring all non-military discretionary spending back to FY2008 levels.

Issa to investigate DC mayor's office

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has opened a full investigation into allegations of corruption against the office of Washington, D.C., Mayor Vincent Gray (D).

Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) announced the probe on Thursday after failed mayoral primary candidate Sulaimon Brown alleged that he was paid by two Gray staffers in exchange for attacking then-D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty (D). After the election, Brown was given a six-figure salary city job, but was later fired.
