Barack and Michelle Obama have a talent for choosing controversial pastors, or like most of us, perhaps they just follow their hearts to fulfill their needs. The family Easter outing was a visit to Shiloh Baptist Church, where Wallace Charles Smith has been in the pulpit since 1991. The church story of being founded by freed slaves is a wonderful one. A more current story in 2009 that Shiloh hosted The U.N. Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, Richard Falk, who has a deep hatred for Israel, in a three day SABEEL Conference, a seminar based on the human rights of Palestinians, is a completely different story.

The SABEEL Conference name was “Pursue Justice-Seek Peace, Framing the Discourse - Mobilizing for Action. Peace is a noble cause, and peace could be had in Palestine but they refuse to acknowledge Israel’s right to exist, so that needs to be up front in any discussion on human rights for Palestinians. The second is to consider Richard Falks’ positions, which is harshly skewed toward Jews. Note that on Day 3 of the seminar, one workshop topic was “The Obama Administration and Prospects for Peace,” and another “Dispelling Christian Zionist Arguments,” and yet another “Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS), A Justice-Based Strategy of Solidarity.”

Echoes of Jeramiah Wright when he invited Hamas co-founder Musa Abu Marzook to deliver a Palestinian manifesto to the church members at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago - the Obama family home church.

David Horowitz’ NewsRealBlog reveals that Shiloh Baptist has connections throughout the Obama administration. During the SABEEL Conference, an associate minister was a White House Fellow. He won “one of only 15 coveted fellowship positions at the White House, while also serving as the Senior Political Director of [quoting NewsRealBlog] “of the far left ministry Sojourners run by Obama’s spiritual advisor Jim Wallis.” Taylor was very vocal during the Jeremiah Wright debacle and defended Wright’s “prophetic tradition.”

The White House needs to tell their Attorney General to STFU.

"Paul Clement is a great lawyer and has done a lot of really great things for this nation. In taking on the representation--representing Congress in connection with DOMA, I think he is doing that which lawyers do when we're at our best," Holder said during a roundtable with reporters at the Justice Department. "That criticism, I think, was very misplaced."

Holder also compared the criticism of Clement to the attacks on Justice Department lawyers for their past work for detentainees at Guantanamo. "It was something we dealt with here in the Department of Justice...The people who criticized our people here at the Justice Department were wrong then as are people who criticized Paul Clement for the representation that he's going to continue," Holder added.

That's a good one. Now Eric Holder is suddenly the great defender of the eternally-incarcerated at Gitmo. But let's talk about Holder's offensive comparison of the American civil rights community to the anti-Muslim bigots and religious right filth who would let those detained at Gitmo rot on the vine because they're dark-skinned. It seems our top law enforcement officer isn't familiar with Constitution. Criminal defendants have a constitutional right to counsel. Causes do not. That's the difference between the Gitmo defendants and DOMA. It's offensive and embarrassing that Holder isn't aware of the difference.

And let's not forget what happened with this DOMA defense, and thus how it compares to the Gitmo trials. The lead Republican lawyer who Eric Holder is defending let the Republicans politicize the defense of DOMA and portray their move to hire him as a swipe at President Obama (funny that Obama's own Attorney General had no problem with that). The lead Republican lawyer had no problem letting Boehner portray the DOMA defense as a favor Boehner was doing for the religious right. Again, not a word from Holder. The DOMA defense was already politicized long before the gays weighed in in their own defense, and President Obama's Attorney General couldn't have cared less.

Did Democrats politicize the terror trials, forcing the Republicans to respond in kind? No.

Is President Obama a black nationalist? This goes to the heart of his presidency - and partly explains why Mr. Obama is losing the broad middle of America. On Easter, Mr. Obama and his family attended Shiloh Baptist Church in Washington. The liberal press corps made much of the fact that the church was founded in 1863 by freed slaves. Yet the church’s pastor, the Rev. Wallace Charles Smith, is a race-baiting black nationalist. He is a more polished version of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, a longtime pastor of Mr. Obama’s.

Mr. Smith lacks the bombast of Mr. Wright but peddles the same philosophy of racialism, grievance-mongering and black victimology. In one of his recent sermons, Mr. Smith argued that institutionalized racism continues.

The National Labor Relations Board has told state officials that it will soon file federal lawsuits against Arizona and South Dakota in seeking to invalidate those states’ constitutional amendments that prohibit private sector employees from choosing to unionize through a procedure known as card check.

In a letter sent on Friday, the labor board told those states that it would invoke the United States Constitution’s supremacy clause in asserting that the state constitutional amendments conflict with federal laws and are pre-empted by those laws. One federal official said the lawsuits would be filed in the next few days.

The Arizona and South Dakota constitutional amendments were promoted by various conservative groups worried that Congressional Democrats would pass legislation allowing unions to insist on using card check in organizing drives, meaning that an employer would have to recognize a union as soon as a majority of workers signed pro-union cards. Under current law, private sector employers can insist that secret ballots be used when unions are trying to organize.

Unions like using card check because it makes it easier to win unionization campaigns. Organizers can gather signature cards quietly until they get a majority of workers, making it more difficult for an employer to mount an opposition campaign. Congressional Republicans blocked passage of the card-check bill.
